Walking Films . . .
As Part of praxis
. . . .
On Walking . . . My legs walk as if belonging to 2 different people.
This is due to a climbing accident in the late 70's - I broke legs and arms and over time the wear and tear alters the natural gait.
Walking is increasingly a conscious act, as it was following the 60ft fall.
I had to learn to walk /
Al over again.
Walking has enabled me integrate into a multiple of locations, enabling me to understand the rhythm of place.
Walking is like the key to the lock of knowing where one is, what one is part of or not part of.
Walking is an expression of freedom and an access to knowledge.
The films are rooted in the habitual walk i do each day . . .
from Home to art.
This is a 20 / 25 minute journey I have been taking for several years . . .
from Home to art.
Most walks are habitual, we often walk the same paths and in the same directions . . .
Whilst on these mechanical walks what do we see . . . ?
Where does our mind wonder and thoughts meander . . . ?
On our way to where . . . ?
This series of films that are perpetually being added to explores the same repetitive route,
same roads, same paths, walking in the same direction . . .
from home to art.
The walk takes approximately the same time to walk /
Day In / Day Out
So there is a possible perception that noting changes
Because time is the same
However I am passing through time that is in perpetual motion.
Within this collection are also films from the desert of China, Lake Heart in Australia and the frozen Finnish Gulf.
A sound walk around the University of Manchester and a subway in China.
