A Human Chromosome /
Made as part of a commission for Contemporary Art Society
& Beck's Fusions 2008 - large scale sculptured forms based on the human chromosome - flew out of an audience of several 1000 - I've got the pictures somewhere > I'm standing on 7 inch platform boots, wearing a silver sparkling kilt, shaved head . . . I'm lifting these human sized sparkling forms onto hooks and they're being hosted into the night sky over the audience . . . oh you just had to be there, I was - it was light hearted hilarity / camp kitsch glam . . .
Life @ art is catching up and moving forwards / going through past documentation and loading up the site / planning future forwards with proposals, applications, suggestions, propositions, conversations, imaginings.
What to do with time / ones time / perpetually moving forwards / limited attention to the cultural obsession with documentation / sigh posts of actuality / proof of an ephemeral series of moments.
You just had to be there.
Is one stance & you did . . . just have to be there.
Hear about it as a story told and a story heard.
That reality v myth / stories / word of mouth /
At one point does the gathered documentation of any performative moment arrive in another form outside the original time frame of its living moment?
When does documentation take on its own existence, its own identity / its own meaning outside the living singularity of its own time / when does documentation mean something to the artist and when does it mean something to you.
Yeah Yeah Yeah we can watch immediate coverage of world leaders being murdered - I've seen it at least three times in the past 4 years - real time - we can repeat / replay / rewind / revisit / slow-mo / fast-mo . . . and there's an industry feeding of the 'documentation frenzy', everyone can and needs to have some line on it . . . this paper is a quick handed take on it all . . . click & go . . . has documentation become porn . . . buy the mag, down load the movie and re-ive that real life sex orgasm fantastical memory fix.
All the takes, arguments and opinions are all justified, they're as real as any photographic evidence or video clip of a live performance of art, they're documents of a thinking process, it's evidence of a sequence of mental, emotional, interlectual, physical moments in time as real as any performance - but my question is when does that moment take on its own identity, when that image, the caught, captured, moment of something that happened somewhere, sometime takes on its own resonance.
We can exhibit the immediate but like the source of the documentational matter it may alter its significance if taken through its own process of time before being revealed / exposed - - - so we can look at what was from a different perspective > We might learn something new.
